Apr 07, 2025
MSC Cruises has officially opened its groundbreaking MSC Miami Cruise Terminal at PortMiami, setting a new global standard for cruise infrastructure. This state-of-the-art facility is the first in the cruise industry to fully integrate a biometric journey with digital identity verification, ensuring a smooth and efficient embarkation process for guests.
Designed by renowned architecture firm Arquitectonica and constructed by Fincantieri Infrastructure, the terminal spans an impressive 492,678 square feet. With the capacity to process up to 36,000 passengers daily, it has been meticulously crafted to prioritize guest convenience and comfort, creating a stress-free start and end to their vacation.
The terminal will serve as the home port for MSC Cruises' and Explora Journeys' ships departing from PortMiami. It will also host MSC Cruises' new flagship, MSC World America, which is set to be named during a special ceremony on April 9 before embarking on her inaugural Caribbean season.
Streamlined Processes for an Effortless Journey
The MSC Miami Cruise Terminal offers an enhanced guest experience with streamlined processes at every step:
Convenient Online Check-In:Guests can check in from home via the MSC for Me app or website, upload travel documents, and receive their boarding pass within minutes. This preparation allows for faster biometric processing upon arrival.
Easy Arrival Options: Whether arriving by car, bus, taxi, or rideshare, guests can easily access the terminal. A six-level parking garage with over 2,400 spaces allows for advance reservations through the MSC app or website. Covered drop-off zones ensure a hassle-free entry to the terminal.
Effortless Bag Drop: Guests who complete online check-in can scan their boarding pass and drop their luggage at secure locations in the parking garage before heading to the terminal.
Faster Check-In and Security: Biometric technology simplifies check-in. Guests can scan their passport and use one of 18 facial recognition pods for quick validation. With 20 security lanes, screening is fast and seamless.
Relaxation Before Boarding: The terminal's design features natural light and panoramic views of Biscayne Bay through its expansive glass facade. Comfortable waiting areas are available throughout the terminal, while MSC Yacht Club guests enjoy exclusive access to a private lounge with premium refreshments.
Biometric-Powered Embarkation: The final step before boarding involves 22 biometric E-gates that streamline embarkation. Onboarding is completed at the terminal rather than onboard, allowing guests to begin their vacation immediately.
Simplified Disembarkation: An advanced baggage handling system ensures quick luggage collection and an easy departure process, helping guests transition smoothly from vacation to home.
Art and Innovation Inside the Terminal
The terminal also serves as an artistic showcase with seven curated works commissioned through Miami-Dade County's Art in Public Places program. A standout feature is a massive 10,816-square-foot digital art installation on the building's exterior. Powered by real-time NOAA oceanic data, this dynamic display reflects tides, currents, and weather patterns. Additional artworks enhance the MSC Yacht Club lounge, elevating the luxury pre-cruise experience.
With its innovative design and cutting-edge technology, the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal redefines what guests can expect from their cruise experience -a seamless blend of efficiency, comfort, and luxury.
